Throughout the ages the Jester has come to symbolize myriad types of individuals and personalities. Most commonly, in literature the Jester is a symbol of common sense and honesty such as in King Lear where the character is used for insight and advice for the monarch. In other tales, the Jester is a comedian or trickster who provides entertainment for a royal court. However, in our favorite and currently most apropos scenario, the Jester is an eccentric, yet not quite deranged, character whose acknowledged, socially “deviant” behavior is an acceptable source of amusement, pleasure, and enjoyment of life…
Here at the Jester’s Joint, we have an ownership team that are veterans of the cannabis crusade. We have been in it for over 20 years and have watched as the medical marijuana movement has been transformed into a national industry that allows for adult- and recreational-use of cannabis. Suffice to say, there are no noobs here.
In many ways, though, the stigma of cannabis remains and many folks still view the plant through the lens of propaganda and those old Refer Madness stereotypes. But let’s be honest: some of those stereotypes do play… Cannabis may, in fact, slow you down. Some might say, relieve stress and relax you. Cannabis might turn you into a giggly, dancing fool. Some might call that being happy. Cannabis can be intoxicating. Some might call it creative or even euphoric. Point is, perspective is everything. And further to that, responsible, safe use of cannabis only extends these benefits. The key to remember is that cannabis is never used to have a good time – it is used to enhance a good time!
And what better way to find out what we’re all about than to come and visit us in New Brunswick, the land of Old Queens and Scarlet Knights. Here at the Jester’s Joint, you’ll find a safe space where everyone can learn, feel, and experience this wondrous plant and, who knows, maybe you’ll even find your own inner-Jester.
With considerable industry experience throughout North America and Europe for the past 20 years, the Jester’s crew is now working to change the game here in New Jersey. Mediocre and over-priced cannabis is not an acceptable standard or expectation for our customers to have. Hailing first from legacy markets and then moving into medical marijuana operations, our management team understands the history, culture, and future of cannabis. We also understand that you, our friends and customers, have many options available to you when it comes to procuring this miraculous plant for your personal use.
Because here at the Joint you can always be sure you’re getting quality cannabis at a fair price. Our product are always 100% cannabis derived, no dangerous or cheap highs here, only true delta-9 THC. After all, we may be the Jesters, but we are also smart, savvy, and sophisticated connoisseurs. So stop by and see for yourself… Who knows, you might just discover your own inner Jester!
Greetings, friends! Thanks for clicking through. Allow us to introduce ourselves a bit more since you’re here. We are, first and foremost, plant scientists here at Jester’s. True story. These days, however, we’re playing shopkeepers. But that doesn’t mean we’re not bringing with us the knowledge and wisdom our experiences have instilled in us.
From photo-biology to plant genetics, from growroom gear to organic plant food, the management team at Jester’s has been at the forefront of the cannabis industry since the advent of the medical marijuana movement in 1996. We are firmly rooted in the science and technology of cannabis and we have played key roles in many aspects, from mapping the cannabis genome, to developing some of the best new lighting tech for large-format cultivation facilities. We were there when the Nolan Kane Laboratory at UC Boulder first isolated the building blocks of cannabis DNA, providing pure, landrance genetics to be run on their long-chain sequencer. We traveled to Tel Aviv when the Israeli Ministry of Health was legalizing medicinal use of cannabis for their military to treat PTSD, providing them with qualitative data on various genotypes that we found to be effective in such pursuits. We founded the world’s first-ever cannabis genetics preserve, the Cannabis Genetics Institute, in 2014 in Amsterdam, to help preserve and reinvigorate a rapidly stagnating cannabis gene pool. We are cannabis people, not here to turn a quick buck, not here just for fun. We’re here to help. We’re here to protect the plant. And, yes, we are here to educate and entertain as well. After all, we all have an inner Jester!
Are you still here? OK then, let us put our lab coats back on for a minute and discuss some real weed-nerd stuff… You see, here at Jester’s, we believe that education on the interactions, and the effects therein, of the various compounds within cannabis is essential to providing consumers with an effective experience and outcome. Hence…
Our approach first applies to cannabis genetics (of course, it all starts with specific gene sets and alleles) and then progresses into the cannabinoid and terpene profiles found in each variety, with a focus on how those compounds interact with the human body and, equally important, with each other. For example, we get asked often “What’s the THC percentage of this product?” And while, THC is certainly a primary indicator of potency, something that has 19% Δ9-THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) can actually get you higher than something that’s over 30% THC. But how is this possible? This is possible because cannabis is a tricky, like a Jester! You see, when it comes to cannabinoids and terpenes, there is a theory (currently the topic of much research and debate) that when it comes to this miraculous plant, the whole of the plant is greater than sum of the parts. This would mean that compounds within cannabis, whether they are psychoactive or not, interact, support, and enhance each other. This theory is known as the Entourage Effect (Google: entourage effect cannabis). So while you may get pretty darn high smoking a flower at 29% THC, you will likely experience a much different, maybe even more intense high, with a strain that has 17% THC but also 2% CBD (Cannabidiol) and .8% CBG (Cannabigerol) and a hint of CBC (Cannabichromene). Throw into this mix terpenes such as Myrcene, Limonene, and Linalool and now it’s a party.
Want some more? How about the fake news surrounding the effects of indica strains vs. sativa strains… We won’t go into it here, but if you want some truth, come see us at the shop. We’d love to geek out with you!

Research and education only goes so far when we’re talking about supporting the plant and building a legit industry. The next great hurdle is, unfortunately, accessibility and affordability. It has always been central to us here at Jester’s that adult recreational users and patients who are in need get the care and medicine they need – no matter what. These ideals extend all the way back to the inception of Proposition 215, the first medical marijuana legislation passed in the U.S. in California in 1996. Back then most of our management team were young adults, just starting out on a path that would eventually lead us to where we are today. But we knew enough then to know that having a movement – and a true cause for humanity behind it – was the only way to end marijuana prohibition and free the miraculous properties of this plant.
That is why we offer discounts on products all day, everyday, 365 days a year. That is why whenever we get a a great deal from a grower or manufacturer, we pass those savings on to you. That is why we will always have products that meet the needs of any budget, any taste, and any occasion. The Jes’ don’t mess!
Finally, the end result of these ideals is, and has to be, quality cannabis. Simply providing commercial grade cannabis, grown inside warehouses by personnel who are new to not only this industry, but to plant sciences as whole, is a model for mediocrity. Companies must start to rely more heavily on people who are educated and experienced in the areas this type of business demands and to utilize science and technology, such as extensive lab testing and qualitative reviews, to better service this new industry if we want it to survive, thrive and have the impact that we all want for both the business and the people it aims serve.
Today, we continue to honor those ideals, even though the medicinal properties of the plant are accepted far and wide by both the medical and political communities. As such, Jester’s Joint will institute a fair procurement system for those in need, such as the elderly, economically suppressed, students, veterans, or just the casual consumer – and we will be more than proud to do so.
If you share these values, care for the future of the plant, and aim to be an ambassador for cannabis, then you’ve found your place at Jester’s Joint. Come visit us in the heart of Rutgers University campus, where Queens, Knights and now Jesters, abound in the new age of cannabis and responsible use.
